PURPOSE
To provide the opportunity for a student, his/her parent (guardian) and extended family member(s) to engage in interactive communication and relationship building.
To provide the opportunity for the student, his/her parent (guardian) and extended family member(s) to experience positive emotions and perceptual shifts towards each other.
To provide a safe environment for a student, his/her parent (guardian) and extended family member(s) to address the issues of truancy.
INTERVENTION STRATEGIES
Awareness of “Communication Styles”, the “Wall of Criticism”, processing trauma, the impact of “enrichment” on motivation and behavior(s).
Understanding “The Brain That Changes Itself”, the “Brain Train”, the impact of “nutrition” and “sleep deprivation” on resilience.
Accepting the “Heart Smarts” tools of “appreciation”, “care”, “joy”, “kindness” impact the emotional landscape to become more ordered and coherent.
Committing to empathy, cultural rituals, memory rituals, and journaling.
Learning to organize thinking by defining in context, describing, comparing-contrasting, classifying, sequencing, cause-effect, whole-parts, and seeing analogies.
Choosing “Which Brain Do You Want?”, First Nations “Building Native Communities Financial Skills for Families”/ “Investing For the Future”, and the school support team.
